Glass Awning and Roof Installation for Landed Homes in Bukit Timah & Katong
Project Background
House of Glass was engaged by multiple landed property owners in Bukit Timah and Katong, Singapore, to design and install modern glass awnings and overhead glazing structures as part of new home construction and upgrading works. The homeowners required durable and aesthetically refined glass canopy solutions to provide weather protection over entrance areas, improve architectural appearance, and enhance the overall functionality of their homes.
As landed properties often feature exposed entryways and porch areas, the glass awnings needed to withstand Singapore’s rain and heat while maintaining structural safety and visual elegance. The project also included custom external glass elements such as glass address plaques and glass roof panels for bungalow front porches.
The objective was to provide high-quality architectural glazing solutions that improve property value, usability, and long-term durability while complementing the modern design of these residential properties.
Solution: Custom Tempered Laminated Glass Awnings and Roofs
House of Glass designed and installed custom tempered laminated glass awnings and overhead glass roofing systems tailored to each property’s structural and aesthetic requirements.
Tempered laminated safety glass was selected due to its superior strength, safety, and durability. Each laminated unit consists of two layers of tempered glass bonded with a structural interlayer, ensuring that the glass remains intact even if cracked. This makes it ideal for overhead canopy applications where safety is critical.
Glass awnings were installed above front entrance doors to provide weather protection while maintaining a clean, modern architectural appearance. For bungalow properties, overhead glass roofing sheets were installed over porch areas to create sheltered outdoor spaces without blocking natural light.
Custom glass address plaques were also fabricated and installed to enhance the property’s visual identity.
Scope of Work
- House of Glass provided a complete glazing solution covering supply, fabrication, and installation of multiple architectural glass structures.
- The project scope included supply and installation of glass awning structures above entrance areas using tempered laminated safety glass. Custom glass panels were fabricated to match each property’s specific dimensions and structural layout.
- Our team also designed and installed glass roof panels over bungalow front porches to provide weather protection while preserving natural daylight. Additionally, custom glass address plaques with precision panel cutting and etching were supplied and installed to enhance the exterior aesthetics of the homes.
- All glass components were installed using professional mounting systems to ensure structural stability, weather resistance, and long-term durability.
- Typical project durations ranged between 2 to 3 weeks, depending on fabrication requirements and installation complexity.
Challenges Faced
- One of the primary challenges involved structural integration of the glass awning and roofing systems with newly constructed landed homes. Each property featured unique architectural designs, requiring customised glass fabrication and precise alignment with existing structural supports.
- Ensuring proper load distribution and structural safety was critical, especially for overhead glass installations exposed to wind, rain, and environmental stress.
- These challenge were overcome by conducting detailed site assessments, creating precise measurements, and fabricating custom glass panels tailored to each structure. Our experienced installation team ensured proper mounting, sealing, and structural reinforcement to deliver a safe and durable glazing solution.
