Project Background
House of Glass was engaged to design, supply, and install a new glass wall cladding system for the lift lobby at the HDB Centre of Building Research in Woodlands, Singapore. The project involved replacing the existing wall finish with a modern architectural glass cladding solution to enhance the aesthetic appearance and durability of the lift lobby.
The objective was to create a clean, contemporary, and professional lobby environment using durable glass wall panels while ensuring safety, easy maintenance, and long-term performance. As lift lobbies experience frequent foot traffic, the solution needed to withstand daily use while maintaining visual quality and structural reliability.

Solution: Decorative Tempered Glass Wall Cladding System
House of Glass installed custom 6 mm thick clear tempered glass panels with white spray-painted backing to create a sleek, uniform wall cladding finish.
Tempered glass was selected due to its superior strength, safety, and durability. Tempered safety glass is up to five times stronger than standard glass and is designed to minimise injury risk in rare breakage scenarios.
The white painted backing provided a clean, opaque appearance, enhancing the lift lobby’s brightness and modern architectural design. The glass panels were installed using precision alignment techniques and decorative fittings, creating a seamless and visually appealing wall surface without visible hardware.

Scope of Work
- House of Glass provided complete wall cladding services, including design consultation, removal of existing wall finishes, fabrication, and installation of tempered glass panels.
- The project began with the preparation of detailed 3D design drawings and multiple design variations for client review and approval. This allowed the client to visualise the final installation and select the preferred design.
- Our team dismantled and safely disposed of the existing wall setup before fabricating custom tempered glass panels based on approved specifications.
- The new decorative glass wall cladding was installed using professional glazing techniques to ensure proper alignment, structural safety, and long-term durability.
- The entire project was completed efficiently within approximately 7 days.
Challenges Faced
- One of the primary concerns raised by the client was the potential for damage to glass panels installed near ground level, where they could be exposed to accidental impacts, scratches, or wear from daily use.
- To address this, House of Glass recommended retaining the existing granite base, which provided additional protection to the lower wall area and reduced the risk of damage to the glass panels.
- Another design challenge involved the initial proposal, which included alternating mirror and glass panels. Based on client preference, the final solution was revised to a full glass-only cladding system, providing a cleaner and more uniform appearance without additional cost.
